DAILY Area Rug MAINTENANCE
Taking preventative steps is the best way to maintain your area rugs around the clock. Start by investing in area rug pads that will reduce wear to the rug surface and help them wear more evenly over time. Next, use the proper vacuum setting that matches your rug type and vacuum the rug surface regularly. Use mats at all entranceways and consider having residents and guests remove footwear by the door. Make sure to keep all pet nails and claws trim to avoid snagging the rugs, brush your cats and dogs regularly to reduce pet dander, and make sure to complete house-training before your pets can spend time on your area rugs.
Area Rugs: Spills & Stains
In an active home, spills and spots will eventually land on your rugs. When they do occur, treat them as soon as you can using warm water and a clean cloth to prevent moisture absorption and permanent stains from forming. Gently remove any large food particles with a spoon first, then begin blotting the stain with the clean cloth and warm water from the perimeter of stain towards the center. If you need more spot treatment, use a gentle, carpet-specific cleaner recommended from your flooring manufacturer’s warranty. We also recommend periodic or annual professional area rug cleaning.

Avoid using a vacuum cleaner with a beater bar on delicate rug fibers and check your rug manufacturer’s warranty and recommendations before investing in a robot vacuum cleaner. If your rug does not allow you to vacuum, simply take it outdoors and shake loose any dirt and dust!
